Nakajima's Rangers journey finally pays off

Journalist Daisuke Nakajima finally got his Rangers story after a long six day, 6,000 mile journey.

Travelling all the way from Japan to watch and report on the football team, he heard last weekend's Elgin versus Rangers game in Elgin, Scotland was cancelled.

Despite their demotion to the lowest tier of Scottish league football, Glasgow Rangers continue to attract global attention as one of the biggest and oldest clubs in the world.

Countries such as South America, USA, Germany, France Italy, Spain and Holland sent reporters to cover the amazing story.

The 6,000 mile journey was nearly complete as Nakajima boarded the train from Edinburgh to Borough Briggs.

A few minutes later, he found out that the match was cancelled and he would not be getting the story he was so excited and eager to report on.

After the Borough Briggs side sold 1,100 tickets too many for the match, the original meeting with City was postponed on Friday evening.

The SFL consequently fined the side for £25,000, with £5,000 of that to be donated to a charity of the Rangers' choosing. The new match date is expected to take place on the weekend before Christmas.

Brian Stockbridge, the club's finance director decided to meet Nakajima at Ibrox to make sure he wouldn't go back to Japan without a story.

The Saitama-based reporter is very familiar with Ibrox as he had spent four years in Glasgow covering Celtic games when Shunsuke Nakamura played for them between 2005 and 2009.

Given his own personal tour of the stadium, the journalist from Footballista magazine will also attend Sunday's home Scottish Cup fourth round tie with Elgin.

He had attended Champion's League games at the ground previously, however he sincerely thanked the Rangers for ensuring his trip was not completely wasted.

"It has been great to come along to Ibrox today to see the stadium and I need to thank Rangers for making sure my trip was worth it," stated the journalist.
