The stunning Californian city of San Francisco will host the NARSA convention this weekend for the first time in seven years

SAN FRANCISCO is set to welcome Rangers fans from all over North America and beyond for this weekend’s NARSA convention.

Up to 500 Light Blues supporters are expected to descend on the Californian city for the three-day gathering.

Of course, the unofficial welcome evening comes first tomorrow ahead of a series of events throughout the day on Friday.

The Tam Plunkett tribute night, NARSA’s annual meeting and the gala dinner will all be among the highlights that follow too.

Manager Ally McCoist and interim chief executive Craig Mather will both attend with first-team stars Andy Little, Ross Perry and Fraser Aird.

Douglas Rennie, of the San Francisco True Blues, is confident it will be an occasion to remember as the convention takes place in the city for the first time since 2006.

He said: “It’s very exciting for us and to have the amount of Rangers fans coming to San Francisco that we’re expecting will be great.

“The last time the convention was in the city, it was incredible to walk the streets and see so many Rangers shirts on display.

“Some of the players were there too and it was a really big thing for us to have them over to see us.

“My wife is American and for her to see people from the Rangers squad in her own back yard was something else.

“She could see the passion that’s behind the team and the following they have all around the world is incredible. We’re really looking forward to hosting everyone again.”

There are a number of leisure events planned as well for supporters during their time in San Francisco.

Indeed, Friday is a busy day in that respect with a choice of the Davie Cooper Memorial golf tournament, a Napa Valley Bus Tour and a football match for absent friends being played.

Many supporters have already begun travelling over and Little and Perry will arrive in the early hours of Thursday morning GMT.

Aird got to America yesterday having flown straight from Hong Kong following his participation in the Soccer Sevens there, in which Gers reached the semi-finals.

Rennie added: “I live just over an hour outside the city in Napa Valley and one of the events we are running involves going up there to do some wine tasting.

“We’ll have the golf tournament as well and no doubt people will be out sailing in San Francisco Bay on their way to see Alcatraz too.

“There is a lot of preparation needed to ensure a NARSA convention runs well and for a club as small as ours, it’s a lot of work.

“It’s brilliant to be welcoming so many followers of the club to our city though and we’re determined for things to go as well as they did last time.”
