Today, Duff and Phelps declared that the announcement of a preferred bidder for the club has had to be delayed due to the decision of the SPL to review its rules.

The administrators had hoped to give an indication today as to which consortium was the preferred bidder.

Although this party would still not be guaranteed to become the next owners of the club, it would certainly put them in pole position, and hence accelerate the sale.

However, it has transpired that the SPL plans to revise at the end of the month how it deals with clubs facing insolvency. This 'game-changer' means that the bidders have all been informed of the proposed changes, and thus have been given time to reconsider their bids.

This means that the sale of the club has yet again been delayed, largely due to poor timing from the SPL.

Doncaster's decision to review the rules at this stage indicates a reactionary measure from a body who have been running for years with rules they have now decided are inadequate. Rules such as a forty point deduction that a newco would have to incur, should it be readmitted into the SPL.

Other measures that are being considered are to give a newco just 75% of competition money for three years and points deductions that occur for two seasons after insolvency.

This asks a few questions of the SPL, specifically the manner in which they have gone about their business. Why are they only doing this now? Are they merely reacting to pressure from the media? Why weren't adequate structures put in place before?

Surely the league realise that the sooner Rangers are sold, the better. However, this sudden decision to change the rules now screams of poor preparation and ineptitude.

spl is just fucking with us i think whats your views.

Yes, we have to be punished, that was always coming, not paying PAYE etc is just a no no.

However, to announce these new rules on the very day that we were to announce a preffered bidder was a calculated move by the SPL to capitalise on our current situation.
