With reports that HDMI output is not working correctly on some PS4 models, we’ve put together a few troubleshooting tips that you can follow to try and get it up and running.
1. Reset the video output on your PS4
Unplug your PS4 and your television
Connect the HDMI cable to the HDMI out port on the PS4
Connect the other end of the HDMI cable to the HDMI input on your television
Plug in the PS4 and the television
Turn on the PS4
The PS4 should automatically detect your set-up. If not, go to step 2.

2. Adjust settings
Try plugging your PS4 into another screen so you can access the menu system
From the menu system, go to SETTINGS and then choose Sound and Screen
Choose Video Output settings
You can configure the set up for your display here based on your monitor, choosing from the likes of TV size and resolution
Now go back to your preferred display and try it out.

3. Replace the HDMI cable
Try a better quality HDMI cable. The default PS4 cable isn't great.

4. Flashing/pulsing blue light?
You may have a hardware error. Unplug and try again. If the problem persists, contact Sony customer support or follow these tips.

There are sporadic reports across the web that some PS4 early adopters are experiencing hardware issues. One of the problems relates to a flashing blue light that appears on the console.

If you boot up the PS4, see a blank screen and a flashing blue light then follow this fix.

1. Remove the HDD

2. Switch on the PS4

3. Turn the PS4 off

3. Insert the HDD

4.Turn the PS4 on.

Some users believe the issue is a fragmented hard drive and the above fix will re-format it so that you can boot up your PS4 and start playing.

If this fix doesn't work, contact Sony Customer Services.

As millions of PlayStation fans get their hands on PS4 for the first time, launch day arrives alongside a great variety of questions and problems. Some users are reporting that a blinking, pulsing blue light on their PS4 light bar is met with a blank screen. Others have chimed in with a host of error codes (and we've got the solutions).

The latest question to arise: What does a blinking red light mean?

Far from an indication of console failure or any such tragedy, a blinking red light on your PS4 simply means that the console has overheated and doesn't want to turn on and risk prolonged heat exposure. It's a good thing, basically; a failsafe put in place to ensure that gamers would be notified if their console is in a less-than-ideal position for cooling and ventilation.

Here's what you should do to fix the Red Light of Heat:

1. Make sure your PS4 is resting on a hard surface. Running your system on carpet or another soft surface is the perfect way to block air vents and overheat your console in a jiffy.

2. Ensure your PS4 has at least a few inches of open air around it. Good ventilation is vitally important, as your system fans need cool air to pull in and sufficient room to deposit heat that won't get sucked right back in.

3. Give it some time! Come back to your console after an hour or so, giving it time to cool off.

Sony has revealed that PlayStation 4 has launched with a fail rate of around 0.4 per cent.

The hardware giant confirmed that the issues reported with launch day consoles thus far fall in line with the company’s expectations. The comments come after consumers, as well as IGN and Kotaku, flagged up some issues with the new machine.

Writing in a statement issued to IGN (via MCV), Sony said, “A handful of people have reported issues with their PlayStation 4 systems.

“This is within our expectations for a new product introduction, and the vast majority of PS4 feedback has been overwhelmingly positive.

“We are closely monitoring for additional reports, but we think these are isolated incidents and are on track for a great launch.

“There have been several problems reported, which leads us to believe there isn’t a singular problem that could impact a broader percentage of systems. The number of affected systems represents less than 0.4 per cent of shipped units to date, which is within our expectations for a new product introduction."

Hardware failures among launch consoles are nothing new. Xbox 360 was notorious for being plagued with issues upon its release back in 2005, which were colloquially dubbed the ‘Red Ring of Death.’
